WHAT IS FOUNDATION PROGRAM (FP)?
Foundation Program is a structured study program that provides continual teachings from one book until it is complete. Students try to attend each class, engage in longer meditations, actively interact with fellow Sangha during discussion, and study and read outside of class. By applying consistent effort in this way, we naturally build our confidence and ability to practice Dharma in daily life, create strong connections with our community of Dharma practitioners and joyfully make progress on our spiritual journey.
• guided meditations
• commentary to the text
• discussion (in pairs and as a group)
• Q & A
WHY JOIN FP?
If you’ve been regularly attending drop-in meditation classes (General Program), joining Foundation Program is the next step in deepening your practical experience of Buddha’s teachings.
The program is based on a systematic study of six Kadampa Buddhist texts written by NKT founder Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. The oral transmission of the book combined with guided meditations and discussion will build our confidence to apply Dharma in daily life.
WHAT WILL WE STUDY?
We will study Universal Compassion, Inspiring Solutions for Difficult Times by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. This inspiring book is based on the popular Buddhist poem Training the Mind in Seven Points. During the week, we put effort into remembering the teachings we have heard and the text we have studied and by doing so, we will begin to transform our mind from ordinary to extraordinary. We also build a connection with the teachings and spiritual friends, making Foundation Program the perfect way to enjoy a spiritual community. Keeping Dharma in our hearts like this will definitely be life-changing.
