Self-Guided Retreat with Introductory Instructions from Gen Chokyan

The purpose of understanding and believing in karma is to prevent future suffering and to establish a basic foundation for the path to liberation and enlightenment. In our previous lives we performed various kinds of non virtuous actions that caused others suffering. As a result, various kinds of unwanted situations arise for us and we experience suffering.

However, if we purify our negative karma before it ripens, and abandon engaging in non virtuous actions, we can avoid experiencing suffering in the future.

Buddha Vajrasattva is the embodiment of the completely pure mind of all the Buddhas. By receiving his purifying blessings, we can free our mind from the negativity of our past, obstructions to our spiritual practice, and experience a light, joyful mind.

In this retreat, we will focus on the four special ways to remove negative karma known as the ‘four opponent powers’ using the sadhanas Offering to the Spiritual Guide and Solitary Vajrasattva. By doing this, we remove karmic potentials that not only give rise to painful experiences but are obstacles to attaining spiritual realizations.

Gen Kelsang Chokyan, Buddhist monk and Resident Teacher at KMC New Mexico will provide instructions for the retreat during the introduction talk on Friday evening. The remainder of the sessions will then be be self guided.

Suitable for all levels of experience. Everyone is welcome!
